About Us

4roots collective is B3 community-based research network comprised of group of community organizers, social entrepreneurs, bridge builders, freedom artists & community-based researchers who share a vision for an arts, culture and learning hub to support a growing People of African Descent (PAD) community to thrive in Vancouver Island/Gulf Islands and beyond. Our collective aims to bring together people from all walks of life who are passionate about empowering the African diasporic community and creating a space for social enterprise, artistic & cultural expression and learning.

Our mission is guided by 4 roots:

1. the root- eradication of anti-Black racism and liberation for all PAD in Vancouver Island/Gulf Islands regions and beyond. A B3 research network is key in connecting the PAD community on Vancouver Island to the public resources and support of post-secondary institutions and community-based researchers.

2. our roots- the collective and diverse ancestral wisdoms, art and culture of the African diaspora

3. rooting – locking roots together with other roots- communities who share in the fight for liberation. Black liberation and Indigenous sovereignty are intricately connected, and so we must come together in solidarity and through building unlikely coalitions

4. rooted—collective thriving rooted in relationships, reciprocity, commerce, place, art, dance, play, food sovereignty and radical imagination

We believe in the power of solidarity, relationships, joy, creativity, and learning to build bright futures for all PAD.

Our Mission
